Cameron Diaz Biography
Cameron grew up in Long
Beach, California with her Cuban-American father who was a foreman and
her broker mum. Her mother was the result of German, Native American and
English heritage. Her easy going parents took Cameron everywhere and as
a child she was a head banging party going kid. "I was a tough kid
with the jeans, the concert shirt with the flannel over it, the comb in
the back pocket and the feathered hair" Her Mother supported her
love of heavy metal music and even accompanied her to her first Van
Halen show.
It was at a party in Hollywood that she got her big break when she was
approached by a modeling agency. She took up their offer and at just 16
was off to live in Japan with a girlfriend. Her mixed life of high
school and modeling meant she didn't work that much. At 19 with a
comfortable career and apartments in both Paris and Los Angeles she
landed the dream roll in "The Mask". Despite the fact that she
had no acting experience and didn't have the dancing or singing skills
required to play the roll she breezed through her 12 auditions.
She instantly shot to stardom with that entrance and her "excuse me,
where I can open an account?" first line.
Cameron was out to prove to the critics that she wasn't a blonde bimbo
who had a fluke with The Mask deliberately chose a low budget film as
her next project. "The Last Supper" was also a success, as
have been all her films since. "I did the Last Supper simply to get
the opportunity with other actors, I never had any other experience of
acting other than The Mask".
When the script to Feeling Minnesota came along Cameron didn't exactly
jump at it, not reading the script until the last minute. However her
lazy attitude worked and she landed the role, opposite Keanu Reeves,
ahead of 70 other actresses. The role was another opportunity for
Cameron to display her acting skills and prove to the world that she
wasn't another model using just her body to make it in Hollywood.
Her next film, "She's the One" was unsurprisingly another hit.
It was a follow up to "The brothers McMullan" and also starred
Jennifer Aniston of 'Friends' fame. She then starred in a lead opposite
Harvey Keitel in "Head above Water".
From the Mask to "She's The One" Ms Diaz has won many admirers
and was last year voted 3rd in the FHM 'Sexiest Woman Alive' award.
However she does not want to be known as just a sex symbol. She has
repeatedly turned down roles in 'bimbo' films and instead settled for
the arty roles, which has been a successful career move.
However the two films that are set to launch her to superstar status
were her latest two, "My Best Friends Wedding" and "A
Life Less Ordinary". Both are romantic comedies and both have been
and look set to continue to be smash hits in both Hollywood and the rest
of the world. A Life less Ordinary sees her star in a film from the
famous "Trainspotting" team, proof that this girl is as
versatile as they come.
