Winona Laura Horowitz
was born on October 29th, 1971 in Winona, Minnesota. She was named
after the town she was born in by her hippy parents Cindy and Michael.
Winona Ryder has
built up a reputation for being the actress to call on for difficult
roles. Her ability to see beyond the surface and to create characters
that others couldn't was built through a life spent outside of the
mainstream. She dropped out of high school and opted for home
schooling and graduated from high school with a 4.0 grade. After high
scool she was enrolled in the prestigious American Conservatory
Theater in San Francisco.
Her first film was
Lucas. Her solid performance provided her a solid ground for further
movie projects. At that time she changed her name from Winona Laura
Horowitz to Winona Ryder. After playing in a few unmemorable movies
she finally came her big brake in the Tim Burton's Beetlejuice.
Winona has been
nominated for Oscars two times. First time as Best Supporting Actress
for the movie " The Age Of Innocence" and second time as
Best Actress for " Little Women". She was Also nominated for
Grammy awards. She won The Golden Globe Awards Two Times as Best
Supporting Actress For "The Age Of Innocence" and was
nominated for her performance in the "Mermaids". She won the
ShoWest Award two times, first in 1990 for the "Female Star Of
Tomorrow" And second in 1997 for the "Female Star Of The
Year".
